SHOW DESCRIPTION
JAKE
Eurogamer Expo, now known as EGX began in 2008 as a brand new event
showcasing upcoming video games. What began as a small following has
evolved into Britain biggest and best games show, taking over venues
like the Royal Armories in Leeds, Birmingham's NEC and the late Earl's
Court Exhibition Center.
LEWIS
What started as 4,000 fans, grew to 75,000 as the event expanded
covering everything from retro gaming to board games. Now EGX packs all
the latest console and PC releases, competitive multiplayer LAN
tournaments, cosplay and merchandise, Indie developer's games and the
Games Industry fair into one massive show.
REVIEW SECTION 1
JAKE
Let's dive straight in, with Project CARS available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. The next-gen racer' acronym stands for Community Assisted Racing Simulator, as funding for the project was covered by the community and the developers themselves. Contributors could also assist with development with roles in content creation, QA and Testing and marketing media.
LEWIS
In comparison to current racing titles, the game ran extremely smoothly and looked flawless; lighting and attention to detail had really been focused on. However the game lacked some reality, turning felt a bit too artificial and easy, but maybe we had on the wrong difficulty. We got to also play Forza Horizon 2, which for me took the best racing game of the event.
JAKE
Yeah, the first Horizon game was a great reinvention of this genre and the sequel has improved in every way; from the expansive graphics to the new gameplay features. Cross Country races are absolutely mental, flying through fields in million dollar hyper cars is one of the best racing game experiences. The demo gave a taste of everything the game had to offer to players and was one of the best games we played at EGX. I know I'm definitely going to get this one.
LEWIS
Lets move onto Batman: Arkham Knight, where event goers could watch an exclusive EGX promo, no tech demo unfortunately. We cant even show you the video it was that exclusive and copyrighted. But here's a teaser released by Warner earlier this year.
(FOOTAGE)
The exhibition itself though was really good and showcased some awesome
new gameplay and what fans of the series can really look forward to.
The presentation was great but I felt that it leaked too much
information which may have ruined the experience slightly for fans that
want to explore the game for themselves.JAKE
Yeah I agree, but I can't wait to try it out. I'm not going to reveal too much but the bat mobile gameplay is a real game changer for the action adventure genre.
REVIEW SECTION 2
JAKE
EGX Rezzed gives devs the opportunity to spotlight undiscovered gems,
and gives gamers the chance to experience unreleased games, all while
speaking with the developers who attend the event. It's part of the show
that never fails to impress and you never know what you could find.
LEWIS
For me, Tulpa by Rising Star Games had a unique style combining
featureless characters, odd puzzles and resembled the dark nature of the
popular indie platformer Limbo. It worked well by placing you straight
into the game with literally no idea about the story, it was strange and
creepy but enjoyable. The game was released not long after the event,
based on its originality and addicting style of play I think that game
will turn out to be hugely popular on the Steam Greenlight market.
JAKE
I got to try out Dream, a quite surreal adventure game where you journey
through your own delusions to find the meaning of your life. The game
is packed with some tough puzzles but the gamescape is beautifully
crafted. Playing this with a headset and no distractions is a must and
is one of the most immersive games I have ever played.
