LO 2: Producing Material for The Games Corner
A) Setting up Equipment
We planned to use 2 DSLR Cameras, taking 4 different lenses; Regular, Portrait, Wide and Zoom. We asked the team members to use all the lenses over the event to get the best variety of shots we could get.
B) Script and Storyboard
We drew up some vague shotplans of the areas and people we wanted to capture in the event. We also did not want any talking in some of the shots of games, as we plan to overlay it with speech, so that the background noise will not be heard.
C) Safe Work Practices
We had to make and abide by a risk assessment and recce in order to keep potential risks to a minimum.
D) Following Production processes
Jake and Lewis were assigned the role of Camera Operator, which meant they go to the event, whereas myself and Will are doing the editing for the show.
Our filming was fit for its purpose because we got a huge variety of shots of a vast amount of products, people, games and areas of EGX, with the camera work mirroring other Magazine shows like the Gadget show, so there is plenty of footage available to edit.
The camerawork was done in first person, with lots of tracking shots, most done at head height, which helps our perceived meaning and effect, as we wanted the viewers to watch it as if they were actually at the show. Unfortunately we could not edit the lighting in EGX as it was all pre light, so we created meaning by trying to capture the atmosphere at EGX, by including the noise from the many people at the convention and recording footage in the hoards of people gathered at the show. Also using the standard lens in crowds gave a very first person feel to the footage.
The segment of our show represents that of a Magazine show as the purpose of it is to inform the viewers of an event that happened in the gaming world, which is what the show is about. The segment demonstrates the gaming world and all it has to offer, which is in the genre of the show, as we show a variety of games, developers and gaming stalls. The segment will successfully give an overview of the EGX convention with its visuals and the informative voice over.
